Identify the vehicle and jurisdiction A truck driving vacancy may require a different licence class, endorsement or restriction status depending on the vehicle and province. Do not assume a licence description or training pathway from one province applies unchanged across Canada. For Alberta Class 1 applicants, consult the current Class 1 Learning Pathway. Alberta introduced this pathway in 2025; advice that simply directs every new Alberta applicant to the former MELT route can be outdated. Follow the current authority's eligibility and progression instructions. Establish the full qualification requirement Ask the employer which vehicle class is involved, whether air brake or other requirements apply, what restrictions are acceptable and what driving experience is required. Confirm the official route with the licensing authority before choosing a school. Check medical, knowledge, practical testing and training requirements directly with that authority.
