Canada opens more than $430 million in apprenticeship training support

Union training funding targets facilities, apprenticeship innovation and equipment, with infrastructure expressions of interest due November 12.

The federal government announced on October 15, 2026 that more than $430 million over five years will support the Union Training and Innovation Program. The announcement opens three routes for eligible organizations seeking to expand skilled-trades training.

Expressions of interest for training infrastructure are due November 12, with projects potentially starting in spring 2027. The innovation stream accepts proposals until December 17. The training-equipment stream has an ongoing intake, and the maximum federal contribution toward eligible equipment purchases temporarily increases from 50% to 70%.

WrenchRoster perspective: this is a training-capacity announcement, not a list of immediate job openings or individual apprentice grants. Training providers can review the stream that fits their project. Workers and employers can watch for confirmed local course spaces, equipment upgrades and apprenticeship opportunities as funded projects move forward. The official program pages provide eligibility and submission requirements.
