A mining roster is a work schedule: the days on site, days off and shift pattern. FIFO describes travel to and from the work location. Compare both before choosing a Canadian mining role; a roster alone does not tell you whether flights or camp are included.

In an on/off notation, 14/14 means 14 scheduled workdays followed by 14 days off; 7/7 means seven on and seven off; 14/7 means 14 on and seven off. These are illustrations, not a promise that any employer currently offers them. Confirm the exact schedule in the job offer.

A 14-day cycle with seven scheduled workdays. Compare the frequency of travel with the time available at home.
14 on / 14 off
A 28-day cycle with 14 scheduled workdays. Ask whether travel falls inside the work block or your time off.
14 on / 7 off
A 21-day cycle with 14 scheduled workdays. Review the longer share of time on site alongside pay and personal commitments.
Roster, shift length and pay are different questions
A 14-day work block with 12 scheduled hours per day contains 168 scheduled hours. That arithmetic does not establish paid hours, breaks, travel pay or overtime. Ask the employer for the written terms, day/night shift sequence and changeover arrangements.
Questions to ask about FIFO and camp
- Where is the departure point, and who pays to reach it?
- Are travel days part of the roster and are they paid?
- Are accommodation, meals and transport to the site provided?
- What happens if a flight is delayed or the project schedule changes?
- Which qualifications and current documents does this role require?
