How to Start as a Scaffolder in Canada

Prepare for access-scaffold work and distinguish scaffold training, trade pathways and site authorization.

Understand the assigned scaffolding work Scaffolding provides temporary access or work platforms. A vacancy may involve handling materials, supervised erection and dismantling, or experienced work with a particular scaffold system. The required competence is not identical for all of these tasks. Be clear about supervision and the systems involved. Ask whether the opening is a materials helper role or an erection role and what training is provided before duties expand. Clarify work at height requirements, fall protection training, physical demands, shifts, travel, tools and relief arrangements. Never assume a training card replaces a site rescue plan or permits you to alter a scaffold. Follow the employer's authorization, tagging and access procedures for the actual installation.
