Fall Protection Training and Working at Height

Separate course validity from site-specific fall-protection requirements and practical authorization.

Identify the exact program Fall Protection is not a single course with identical conditions everywhere. Energy Safety Canada's general Fall Protection course and its Fall Protection for Rig Work course have different scopes and certificate conditions. For example, the general course states a three year certificate validity, while the cited rig work course states that its certificate does not expire. Do not apply one program's rule to a different card. Confirm the employer's acceptance and any jurisdiction specific training requirement before enrolling. A certificate is not the whole work plan Work at height still requires appropriate equipment, instruction, assessment and the site's applicable fall protection and rescue arrangements. Training does not itself approve an anchor point, calculate clearance or authorize an unfamiliar task. Ask the employer what practical competencies must be demonstrated, which equipment will be used and what additional instruction the actual site requires. When an issuer does not give an expiry, do not fabricate a date or alter the card to satisfy a form.
