How to Become an NDT Technician in Canada
Plan a non-destructive testing pathway by method and level, with training and certification clearly separated.
Start with the method and certification level Non destructive testing examines materials or components without the destructive testing of the item being assessed. NDT qualifications are method and level specific; the general title NDT Technician is not evidence of qualification in every method. Natural Resources Canada's NDT certification program is the official starting point for the certification it administers. Consult its current requirements rather than assuming an introductory course alone confers certification. Plan training and supervised experience Read NRCan's guidance on becoming certified. Establish the required training, experience, examinations and other eligibility evidence for the specific method and level you want to pursue. Ask employers whether they recruit trainees, provide suitable supervised experience and support the relevant assessments. Keep records in the format the certification body requires. A employer's job title or a website profile cannot replace the certification body's eligibility decision. Present the scope of your qualification State each method and level you actually hold, the issuing body and current validity. Separate completed training, supervised experience and achieved certification. Do not represent a welding inspector credential as equivalent to every NDT method qualification. Ask about the materials, sectors, work location, reporting responsibilities and supervision involved in the vacancy. Some assignments, such as radiographic work, involve additional safety requirements and authorizations; NDT recruitment guidance is not a radiation safety procedure or permission to perform the work. Prepare your WrenchRoster application Select NDT Technician and describe your specific methods and levels accurately. Upload relevant documents using the available supported document categories; contact support when the form cannot represent your credential rather than mislabelling it as another ticket. Review welding credentials, ticket review status and profile setup. For renewal and maintenance of certification, use NRCan's certification management guidance. WrenchRoster does not certify NDT personnel, extend certification validity or approve inspection procedures.
